The Humble Ingredient That Keeps Surprising Us
If you’ve been part of the Core Living community for a while, you already know how much I love apple cider vinegar. It’s one of those simple, down-to-earth ingredients that’s been used for centuries, yet every time we look deeper, we find another reason to be amazed.
Beyond digestion and gut health, ACV has this beautiful ability to support the skin, from chronic conditions like psoriasis, eczema, and rosacea, to everyday things like bug bites, rashes, and irritation. There have been testimonials after testimonials on, The Crazy Vinegar Lady Facebook group of so many with skin issues that have delt with all their lives finally get relief!
Let’s look at how something as simple as fermented apples can help calm and balance your skin naturally.
Your Skin’s Natural Balance: The pH Connection
Healthy skin lives slightly on the acidic side — about pH 4.5–5.5. That acidity keeps moisture locked in and bacteria out. When we wash with harsh soaps or expose our skin to chemicals, that balance shifts toward alkaline, leaving the barrier vulnerable.
Apple cider vinegar gently restores that natural pH, helping your skin remember how to protect itself. It’s not about burning or stripping, it’s about balance.
That’s one of the main reasons ACV feels so refreshing when used properly in toners or soaps, it supports what your skin is already trying to do on its own.
The Natural Antimicrobial in Your Kitchen
ACV’s acetic acid is its powerhouse compound; it helps keep unwanted bacteria and yeast under control without disrupting your skin’s good microbes.
That’s why vinegar rinses and toners can feel clarifying, they help balance the skin surface and calm mild irritation. The key, though, is proper dilution and patch testing before you go all in.
How It Helps Specific Skin Conditions
Psoriasis
Many people with psoriasis find that diluted apple cider vinegar soothes scalp itch and helps loosen flakes. The National Psoriasis Foundation even lists it as a comfort measure.
Mix 1 part ACV with 1 part water, apply to the scalp, leave for 5–10 minutes, and rinse.Tip: Skip it if your scalp is cracked or bleeding.
Eczema
Eczema needs moisture and barrier repair. I recommend a 1 Part ACV with 5 Parts water especially if cracked or bleeding. Use gentle cleansers, short lukewarm showers, and seal in moisture right after with something rich like our Core Living Whipped Tallow — designed to mimic your skin’s natural oils and calm inflammation.
Rosacea
If you have rosacea, I recommend a 1 Part ACV with 5 Parts Water (can be adjusted) And focus on barrier-friendly, fragrance-free skincare. Our castor oil would be a great calming oil mixed with our Tallow + Honey Moisturizer.
Bug Bites, Rashes & Everyday Itch
This is one of my favorite everyday uses for apple cider vinegar — calming bug bites and minor rashes.
When you get a mosquito bite or irritation from sweat, the area becomes slightly alkaline and inflamed. ACV’s mild acidity helps neutralize that reaction and calm the itch naturally.
How to use it safely:
Mix 1 tablespoon ACV with 3 tablespoons water.
Dab gently on the bite using a cotton pad.
You’ll often feel a cool, soothing sensation almost immediately.
For mild rashes or heat irritation, try a soothing mist: Mix ACV and water (1:5) in a small spray bottle, mist lightly, and follow with moisturizer.
It’s simple, refreshing, and perfect for summer.
Safe Ways to Try ACV on Skin
Always dilute it — start with 1 part ACV to 10 parts water for the face.
Patch test before using on larger areas.
Never apply to broken or inflamed skin.
Follow with a moisturizer to keep the barrier strong.
Avoid mixing it with strong actives like retinol or exfoliating acids.
Gentle and consistent always wins over strong and reactive.

Whether you’re calming a stubborn skin flare-up or soothing a summer bug bite, ACV helps your skin get back to its happy place, balanced, clear, and calm.
